About Me

introduction katie b counselling

Looking for a counsellor is hard and I know how important it is to find the right person who you will feel comfortable with.

I am an experienced counsellor who has worked with charities such as MIND and also in my own private practice. I see clients every day who are having struggles in their lives. I also had my own struggles with anxiety which counselling helped me with. All of my experiences enable me to understand how counselling can and will help people when they are struggling.

My main priority when working with you is keeping you safe. Therefore, being qualified and working ethically is incredibly important to me. I also ensure I continue to train in different areas to keep my knowledge fully up to date and relevant to my client work.

There is such a fine line that exists between looking after ourselves and potentially struggling a bit with our mental health.

Is it protecting our peace or withdrawing?

Is it saying no because we want to or because our anxiety says so?

Is it being kind to others or putting other peoples needs above our own?

It is such a fine line it can get a bit blurry sometimes. That’s why self awareness can really help with this. It can help us to understand what’s going on underneath and whether we are looking after ourselves.

Let me know which fine lines you might struggle with below.

Sometimes it doesn’t feel like 5 mins have passed since I set up in private practice and others it feels like I have always done it.

I started my working career in complaints, ran a lifestyle management business and then an engineering company before being in the place that was right for me. At the age of 44 I decided it was time to do the thing I had always wanted to do and I have never looked back.

I feel so privileged that people chose to talk to me about their lives. So thank you to all of them.

Here’s to the next 5 years.

It’s a month of totally different experiences - leading to another month which brings up totally different experiences.

This month we will see the nights drawing even darker, the leaves turning orange and shedding, temperatures dropping and the threat of Christmas getting closer with all the stuff that comes with it.

Some of us will love it and some of us will hate it. It will all come down to your experiences and perspective. There is no right or wrong way to experience the coming couple of months.

Plus on top of that this month we see the start of awareness days for male mental with a bit of grief awareness dropped in. So that means I will of course be continuing to post as much as I can.

During all this don’t forget to look after you - because that is all that matters.

Little reminder on a Wednesday morning.

It’s such common reaction from people - I don’t share my stuff because I don’t want to be a burden to others. Maybe people around you are dealing with their own stuff that feels bigger than yours or maybe your self worth makes you feel like you are not allowed to be a bother to anyone. What ever the reason it means you get left not being able to share your stuff and having to deal with it on your own.

If this is you the counselling/therapy room can be a place you can share. You don’t have to to do it on your own.

You are never, and I mean it, never a burden with your counsellor/therapy. We want to hear and know your stuff.

The power of being seen is so valuable.

Someone just noticing us. Whether it’s seeing something good or noticing when someone is not being their normal self. It really does make such a difference.

When we don’t feel seen it can really screw with our mental health - we might feel unimportant, lonely or struggle with our sense of worth.

Who can you see today? Tag them below to give them a bit of a lift.

Too needy or maybe your needs are not being met at the moment by yourself or by others.

Our needs are important and if someone else things that your needs are too much it’s worth a little reflection.

What are your needs right now? Are they being met the way you ‘need’ them to be?

Got to be worth a thought.

Also can we also be a bit careful when describing other people like this. Let’s not leave people with the impression that they are too much!
